Eaton United Methodist Church is involved in numerous mission projects locally, nationally and abroad.
Preble County Food Bank and the Once Around Shop
Our church is committed to helping those in our community that have fallen on hard times through donations to the Preble County Food Bank and The Once Around Shop. Our church is responsible for contributing small containers of hygiene products such as dish soap, laundry detergent, shampoo, toothpaste, 4 pack toilet paper, bar soap, etc. Non-perishable food items are always welcome and we certainly try to help when the food bank is low on any food items. The Once Around Shop can always use gently used Bibles as well. There is a basket outside of the pastor’s office for your donations.
Christmas for Preble County Families
Each year, our church adopts several families in need and our members purchase new gift items to help make their holidays a little brighter.
Operation Christmas Child
Through Samaritan’s Purse, our church donates shoe boxes filled with items children would like as well as a message about Christ. A 12 week bible study is also offered with the shoe box and an opportunity to receive a bible when they finish the study. In 2013 we collected 44 shoe boxes.
Each year at the start of school, in conjunction with the Once Around Shop, we collect school supplies to support children whose family may not be able to provide the necessary supplies. We also had a team present at the school fair with a game table and free pop.
There are many people that need gas to be able to get to a job interview, doctor appointments or to their job, but cannot afford it. We collect and offer gas cards to these persons in need.
Christmas in July
We had a couple members from our church visiting family in Sierra Leone, Africa and before they went, we held Christmas in July. A Christmas tree held tags for items of need for the people and children in Sierra Leone. Members took tags and purchased the needed items for the couple to deliver. Many were blessed by these contributions.
A rummage sale is held each spring to support an area of need. In years past the rummage sale has supported our youth group mission trip, the Once Around Shop, shoes for children in Ecuador and the Salvation Army. Donations are accepted from anyone in the church or in the community. Prices are very reasonable and there is always lots of great merchandise! We encourage you to donate or come and buy!
Tijuana Christian Mission
The Tijuana Christian Mission is called City of Refuge and was visited by our pastor with a local mission team a couple years ago and we continue to support this mission. It is home to 8 staff members and about 30 children. In 2013, 6 of those children came to know Christ and were baptized. The Rosarita Campus is new and home to 8 staff members and 70 children. It is a work in progress and is located 26 miles south of the US-Mexico border. We hope to take another team to support this ministry with hands on support in the near future.
